Yes, I did write FORK ART and no I didn’t misspell FOLK ART. I saw this idea at the Red Barn Candle Company and I thought it would be a perfect way to add a little vintage charm to my 80’s kitchen!

I gathered up my supplies:

1 serving fork or spoon from Goodwill (I couldn’t decide so I experimented with both)
Burlap
Picture with frame from Goodwill
Spray paint in Oil Rubbed Bronze and Metallic Pearl Mist Paint and Primer in 1 from Rustoleum
Masking Tape
Hot glue gun

I started with this picture frame…

I searched for a textured wood frame but after a few thrifty trips I gave up and went with this one. I started with Blue Ocean Breeze and hated it. Not the actual color. Just the color on this frame.

Then I thought I would use my craft paint to make a mixture and so I began…

White, almond, silver, black…..the frame was a hot mess.

So I decided to admire the utensils cause don’t you know I love the oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I popped out the glass and attached some burlap to the picture and backing. I secured the burlap with masking tape. Sometimes I just amaze myself. I’ve been growing an increasing level of disgust for my glue gun because it likes to burn me… 🙁

I did glue the fork to the burlap without 3rd degree burns. So yeah I’m getting the hang of this crafty thing.

Once I popped the “picture” back into the frame I hung it on the wall and lived with the hot mess frame for a few days. Later, while browsing the spray paint aisle at Home Depot I found this…

The neat thing about this stuff is that the cap of each can really does a great job of showing you what the color will look like. Pearl Mist is beautiful. And in a pinch this stuff can change a hot mess into something misty and magical.

Question: So, what do you think? Still a hot mess or misty magic?

P.S. I spy something green….

I’m linking this project up here and here.
