Guys, Big Daddy and I had such a great weekend! Between seeing The Phantom of the Opera at The Fox on Halloween night and attending the Native American Festival in Stone Mountain, I’m tired. This is more action than I would normally see in a single weekend. Anyone else totally excel at being a homebody?

When I was a little girl, my grandparents would take my sister and I to Powwows. That experience made such a strong impact on me. I love Native American culture. I took a course in college, bought books written by Native Americans, and I’m just obsessed with the beautiful language, clothes, and music.

In fact, while we were there I read a quote by Chief Seattle that I thought you might like.

“How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land?

The idea is strange to us.

If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?

Every part of this earth is sacred to my people.

Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people.

The sap which courses through the trees carries the memories of the red man.”

I could go on and on but I think I’ll just let the photos of the day tell the story.

This little girl danced along side her younger sister and mother. They all closed their eyes as they danced.

And look at my sweet Aunt Carol. You can call her the owl whisperer.

This woman and her clothes were absolutely gorgeous. This picture doesn’t even come close to capturing the beautiful hand sewn bead work over the entire headpiece. Ladies, forget about tiaras. This lady knows how to wear some bling.

Oh. My. Goodness. What can you say about a sweet dog in a totally chic metallic purple puffy coat? Notta.

This is probably one my top 3 favorite wildlife pics I’ve captured. The others? Those buffalos and big horn sheep pics I caught during my adventures in Yellowstone Park. Which, now that I think about it, I’m sure I haven’t shared with you yet. Oops. Will do soon, promise.

Anyone else been to a powwow? Anyone else lusting after the beaded magic these lucky women get to wear?
