Rustoleum Furniture Transformation Christine September 25, 2015 Furniture Rustoleum Furniture Transformation: The Mean, Green, Dressin’ Machine Welcome to Flashback Friday! This is a oldie but a goodie about my SECOND furniture flip eva’. Wow. Today I’m working my fingers to the bone on a piece of furniture Big Daddy and I designed and built from scratch!! I’ll interrupt my original scheduled post on Monday (My Mood Board Monday) to bring you the final results of a pretty awesome 1st time build! So while I’m off in the garage working on filling holes, sanding, priming, and painting, I thought it would be fun to re-post a great project from the past! I learned a few things after looking over this old post: 1. Be Brave. I love that I went with something that was WAY out there for me. I’ve tried to continue that trend here on the blog and it’s been an awesome experience. This furniture re-do was featured on Miss Mustard Seeds Friday Features. That was a real highlight for me. 🙂 2. Just Try It. Did you know that I was featured in a book and I was interviewed on the radio for failed DIY projects? Have I been in any magazines for something pretty and not a totally epic fail?  Actually, yes. Country Living online featured me twice. The book, radio, and online magazine, were equally thrilling for me! Failing is just part of the process. I say, accept the truth that you’ll fail. Accept that some fails are epic while other failures can be salvaged (like this one!). Accept it and you won’t be devastated when failure knocks on your door. Sometimes it’s worth giving it a second try and sometimes it’s just a great story to tell. 3. Don’t Be Embarrassed. This is especially relevant to other bloggers. We (bloggers) have a lot of pressure to give it our picture-perfect-all especially in our post-it-perfect-Pinterest society. I get that we all like pretty pictures but I also get that not all of our pictures will be pretty. When I took the pictures for this post I didn’t have a camera so all the photos where taken with the original iPhone. We also lived in a basement apartment. What does living in a basement apartment have to do with picture quality? Everything. Oh my goodness, it was dark all. the. time.  But I’m not embarrassed that my photos look the way they do. It reminds you of your humble beginnings so please don’t be embarrassed of any part of your blog. If you’re interested, I currently use a Nikon D5200 with lots of extras. Of course, I didn’t buy them all at once but I did find this bundle on Amazon…wish I would have seen this long ago. ——————————————————————————————————- I hope you enjoy this edition of Flashback Friday! Originally Posted in 2012: *This post contains affiliate links Hey guys and gals! T.G.I.Fab Finds Friday! I have something that I’ve been dying to show you! I bought a vintage 4 drawer dresser made by Bassett Furniture about a week ago but didn’t want to show you until I re-invented it! I bought this bad boy for $40 bucks via Craigslist. The dresser was perfect for us since Big Daddy recently got a very similar dresser by Bassett only taller, chunky-er, and manly-er. 🙂 I’m not into matchy match but Big Daddy leans in that direction, however, I couldn’t resist it’s curves and vintage hardware! Here he is before… So pretty! I actually loved the color combo on this piece but I was feeling a bit daring and wanted something like this… Monica from deCORaTiNG iNSaNiTY painted this absolutely gorgeous piece and I’m telling ya, it IS easy being green! I showed Big Daddy my inspiration and he was uh…um well, he was doubtful. To tell you the truth so was I. I’ve painted exactly 1 piece of furniture before and I’d never glazed before so doing something as INSANE as painting a dresser green was a little nerve wrecking! But I’m so glad I went all volverse loco! Here is my sweet, crazy, and GREEN dresser now… Ooooh, la double la la! I’m by no means a glazing guru but I think this turned out great! By now you’re likely asking how in the world an amateur such as myself could make a green dresser worth salivating over. And the answer is Rustoleum Furniture Transformation Kit! Run, don’t walk to Home Depot or Lowe’s to get this all-in-one painter’s BFF box of fun! As you can see from my picture you get EVERYTHING you need to paint a piece of furniture! The directions are easy to follow and they even tell you what kind of brush to use (2″ Purdy brush)! Plus the cans are labeled step 1, 2, 3! Awesome! The paint did what it said it would do. As you can tell from the before picture the dresser was painted with some glossy white paint with silver trim. I didn’t prime, I didn’t sand (except where I needed to add some wood putty for the imperfections) but I did clean it well and followed Rustoleum’s directions exactly! If you are itching for a project and aren’t sure where to start, then start with Rustoleum’s transformation kit! Just remember to have your friendly paint department tint your base before leaving the store!!! Here are your choices… Still not sure? Check out Lindsay’s review of the furniture transformation kit at Living with Lindsay. She chose Midnight Blue and she did an AMAZING job! I really want to try Laguna and Midnight…I can’t wait! I just gave those already beautiful drawer pulls a couple of light coats of Krylon Brushed Metallic Satin Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.  Umm, I really heart this stuff! The Bottom Line 1. Rustoleum Furniture Transformation Kit is AWESOME! 2. No sanding needed! 3. No primer needed! 4. You can choose either to glaze or not to glaze! 5. You only need to carry one thing out of the store! 6. The kit is reasonably priced at Home Depot for $35 bucks! So, what do you think of the lean, mean, and GREEN dresser! 57 Responses Emily July 1, 2012 Oooh, what a pretty color! Reply Christine July 1, 2012 Thanks Emily! I totally agree!
