Atlas Sunburst Mirror Christine October 22, 2012 Crafts I think these sunburst mirrors have been around since the beginning of decorating time. Of course, since I was living under a rock I’m just now getting my sunburst on. I’d seen sunburst mirrors before and I still have dreams of one I found on Craigslist that I let slip away. C’est la vie. I’d also seen cute rolled wreaths made with sheet music. I loved the idea of using sheet music but I searched high and low for those piece of sheets and just couldn’t find them. Instead I went with maps. Which is another big trend right now and I’m all about it. I got a large Atlas from Goodwill and went to tearing pages and rolling paper. I went through one whole book before I realized I needed more pages but after too many days in the search party I decided to move on. My mirror is very large and if I could’ve found more maps I would have preferred it to be fuller. Oh well. I pulled out my pink polka dot glue gun and went to work. I glued quickly and haphazardly in a circle onto a piece of foam poster board I bought at the DollarTree. ___________________________________________ Warning Tangent Ahead! Has anyone ever heard of a glue gun belt or holster? I’m down with cowboy boots and I think a sweet studded baaliinngged out glue gun holster would be pretty groovy. Well let me know. _________________________________________________ I got my round mirror from Michaels for $2 but you can also get them at the DollarTree. This is where the project went all crazy. I didn’t like the unfinished edge around the mirror so I used some twine and hot glued it around the mirror to create a frame. It turned out to be a hot (glue) mess. Then I poured mod podge and epsom salt on the twine. Even worse. I finally used some paper twine that I had from a previous Goodwill excursion. I have no idea what this stuff is called. It’s like a crepe paper texture that is tightly wound. I just untwisted, scrunched, and glued it onto my twine covered epsom salt. I don’t have any pics of the mirror on the wall because I’m not sure where to hang it. One thing you’ll definitely pick up on here at Let’s Get Crafty! is that I take for.ever. to make a decision. And then once I do make a decision I can’t guarantee it won’t be changed the next day. So I may have lots of bare walls in this here condo but at least I’ll never run out of projects to write about. 🙂 Question: What do you guys think of my Atlas Sunburst Mirror? 14 Responses Ricki Treleaven October 23, 2012 Very colorful.
